Because we took Aya to Boston last weekend, I asked Aly what she’d like to do with Nana and Papa. Her response? “I want to make cutcates (cupcakes).”
I asked if she was sure that’s all she wanted to do, and she said yes, she just wanted to make “cutcates” with us. So “cutcates” it was! I asked her what kind of cake she wanted and she was very sure about chocolate. When asked about the color frosting she named several, blue, pink, yellow. I thought to myself, I can do that with a little food coloring. We decided that we’d make them on Sunday and then Aly could take them to daycare on Monday to share.
On Sunday, before starting, we showed Aly some sprinkles and candy jack o’lanterns we’d bought for her to put on the cupcakes. Aly first poured the cake mix into a mixing bowl.
Then she poured in the oil and the water.
Aly then got her stool so she could watch the stand mixer do it’s job. Papa held her hair back, he was getting nervous with it loose near the mixer.
Aly put in the cupcake papers and Nana filled them up. Aly decided she needed a break, so Nana got them all into the oven to bake.
After they had all cooled on a baking rack, Aya and Aly came out to help. Aly told Aya that she could help me frost while Papa helped Aly decorate.
It was a lot of fun for all of us to make these cupcakes, and just as much fun to eat them!
Special note: Errol loves to play pranks with the girls. The other day he put a stuffed snake in Aly’s big box of fruit snacks, and a skeleton hand coming out from under Aya’s bed. Aly let out a delighted squeal when she found the snake. From Aya’s room we just heard “Ah, I found something.”
