I’ve had a couple people ask me about this recipe, but how could you go wrong with a cake that’s a doughnut?
For this you will need:
1 box yellow cake mix
3/4 cup apple cider
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 cup coarsely shredded peeled tart apples (2 medium)
3 tablespoons butter, melted
1/4 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
Heat oven to 350°. Generously spray a bundt pan.
In a large bowl, beat cake mix, apple cider, butter, eggs, 2 teaspoons cinnamon and the nutmeg with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes, scraping the bowl occasionally.
Stir in the apples and pour into the pan.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from oven. Let stand 20 minutes. Run metal spatula around the outer and inside edges of pan to loosen cake. Remove from pan to cooling rack. Place cooling rack over waxed paper.
Brush top and sides of cake with 3 tablespoons melted butter. In a smal bowl mix sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon until blended.
Press 2 tablespoons cinnamon mixture up side and top of cake with hand.
Let stand 20 minutes. Repeat with remaining cinnamon mixture. Cool completely. Store loosely covered.
It was definitely a hit with all! One sitting and it’s half gone!
