Creating listings with variations on eBay can be very useful when you have an item to sell that has multiple options.
For example, you have a woman’s blouse to sell in several colors and sizes. Using variations allows you to put it into one listing. It will cost you less to list it, and make it easier for your customers to find the size and color that they would like to purchase.
Variations are only allowed for certain categories. These include: Baby, Clothing, Shoes & Accessories, Crafts, Health & Beauty, Home & Garden, Jewelry & Watches, Pet Supplies, Sporting Goods, and eBay Motors Apparel & Merchandise. Best offer is not available when using variations. Buy it now and auctions work best when using variations.
Creating a listing with variations
Begin by choosing the category for your listing. If eBay allows variations in that category, you will be prompted to choose that option.
Adding the variation details
eBay will offer you common options for the category you chose, or you can create your own variation.
Color and size are the most common variations used, but you can use up to 5 variations per listing. After you choose your color and sizes, you will then need to download pictures. You need one picture showing all of the color options, and then a picture of each one individually. The photo showing all of the option will be the photo shown in the search engine. The individual pictures will come up as a potential buyer clicks on each color option. You will then be asked to enter the quantity and price for each variation.
Adding item specifics
Item specifics are things that apply to all of the items in your listing. The material the blouse is made of could be one. The brand, and where it is manufactured are other common item specifics.
Keep in mind that it’s not used just for listing clothing. I have used it for listing yarn also.
I have 6 different packages of this Lion Brand Yarn. A customer can go to that listing and choose which variation they wish to buy.
If you sell all of the quantity that you have listed for a variation, then the listing will blank out that option as “out of stock”.
Using variations can not only save you money on insertion fees, it can save you time by listing several items at the same time.
