I had never heard of an Elf on a Shelf until a couple of years ago. I like to have family traditions, and it’s a cute idea that the 5 year old Ayanna really seemed to get a kick out of.
You’re supposed to name your Elf. Most boys pick a boys name, girls pick a girls name. Ayanna named our Elf Bella. The premise of the Elf is that it appears the day after Thanksgiving to watch what the child does and reports daily to Santa about the child’s behavior. Since Santa is trying to sort out his naughty and nice list, this is extremely helpful to him. The Elf is quite playful and mischievous, and no one knows exactly where it will show up each morning. It continues this behavior until Christmas Eve when it disappears, returning to the North Pole until next year.
The child locates the Elf each morning, but is warned that if they touch it, it will leave for good with a naughty report to Santa.
As a parent, or grandparent, coming up with a new idea for Bella each day can be quite a challenge. My daughter Sam and I took turns last year attempting to “outdo” the other’s ideas. We got help from Facebook and online posts of others ideas also.
I am going to post some of last years Bella antics for the next three weeks, with the hope that some of our ideas might help someone else.
Hope these help in giving you ideas for your Elf. I’ll have more on next Friday’s post.
