My 2-1/2 year old granddaughter Alynna, is developing quite the entertaining personality. She goes to daycare while her mom works, and they’ve been teaching her some lullabies and children songs, which she loves to sing and dance to. We realized that our Echo Dot would play some of the ones that she loves like Row, Row, Row Your Boat, and Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, but it wouldn’t play her favorite which is Rockabye Baby.
Uncle Tony’s in the Box
One morning, while she and I were talking to my son Tony on Alexa, which she says “Uncle Tony’s in the box”. I told him how happy she was to find out that Alexa knows a lot of her songs, but unfortunately doesn’t know her favorite, Rockabye Baby. Uncle Tony–who is very clever with computers–said, “Give me a minute”. He worked his magic, and made it so Alexa would play her song.
Aly was absolutely delighted. Now, she wants Alexa to play her the songs all day long. She will come to my desk, where Alexa is located, lean in and say, “Lesa, Lesa, row, row, row”. Unfortunately for Aly, Alexa doesn’t recognize the “two year old’s version” of her name. So Alexa doesn’t play it, but that doesn’t stop Aly from trying; so much so that our music history will end being the same songs over and over again.
I’ve tried to tell her that Alexa’s sleeping when she doesn’t answer her. That just tells Aly that she should make her request louder. Every now and then, you can hear Aly yelling at Alexa, “Lesa, Lesa, rock baby!”
