I’d never been to Mount Agameticus.
Mount Agameticus is not far from us in York Maine. I’d never had any reason to go there before. First of all, I’ve never been much of an outdoorsy person. I’ve always preferred to be indoors, out of the elements, in the comfort of my home.
Secondly, why would I want to go there? Most people that go there go to hike up the mountain. There are several different trails, some harder than others, that bring you to the peak of the mountain. There you can take in some breath taking views of the the surrounding areas including the foliage and the ocean.
Before losing the weight, hiking was as about as low on my list of things to do as it could go. I just couldn’t do it, which certainly made it no fun to try. So when a high school friend suggested that a group of us get together to hike up the mountain, no one was more shocked than I was that I thought it was a great idea!
Errol and I met the small group on a Sunday morning at the base of the mountain. Seven of us and 3 dogs began the hike up the mountain. There were a couple tough spots. The trail is rocky and bumpy with tree roots in places, making you really watch your footing, but the sights are so worth it!
We did this in October on a beautiful, crisp, sunny day, while the autumn leaves were at their peak. What a beautiful day it was! When we reached the top, I’ll admit after a little huffing and puffing, we took a rest while enjoying the views of our home. What a sight!
Of course, this day was made even more special, being able to spend it with old friends. Joking and catching up with each other, which is an activity I have always enjoyed!
Here are just a few of the beautiful sights we saw.
Just one more reason to be thankful for my weight loss.
