The Bowling Alley Was a Cow Pasture?

My husband Errol’s family has an annual barbecue at his brother Eric’s house. This years was on a terribly rainy day, but that didn’t stop us from enjoying ourselves.

Because of the lousy weather, not as many people as usual came, but there was still about 25 in attendance. Eric had set up some canopy’s which kept us dry, and we spent the afternoon sitting around and talking.

We caught up on current events in our lives while having hamburgers, hotdogs, pasta and potato salads, beans and cookies.

The real treat of the day was Errol’s aunt Nancy telling us stories about the family from when she was a young girl. I learned so much I didn’t know about the Ducharmes. I also learned that my family and Errol’s were connected long before I was even born. Aunt Nancy told of how her mother (Errol’s grandmother) and my mother were great friends and that they were in a sewing circle together.

She told us that the Ducharme’s used to own a house on one side of the main street in Sanford Maine, and that the other side was their cow pasture. Right where the local bowling alley is now!

The rain would stop every now and then for a bit and give the girls a chance to go play before it began to pour again.

pastureRain or shine, we always manage to have a good time when we’re with family.
